UP-site | the residential building in Bucharest (RO)
The UP-site is a construction of a residential building consisting of 270 apartments in two residential high-rise buildings of 14 and 24 floors, set on a common basement of 2 levels with parking spaces. The two towers include seismic base isolation, which is a novelty for high-rise buildings in Romania.
The site is located between Lake Floreasca and the Aurel Vlaicu Metro station, 200 meters from one of the most famous shopping centers in Bucharest: Promenada.
Thanks to its considerable technical expertise, SECO International is one of the actors contributing to the success of this innovative project.
SECO’s assignment consists of the technical inspection services of the design and execution of the closed main fabric as well as the technical installations. Review of the seismic design is done according to the Romanian P100-1-2013 code and Eurocode 8.
SECO’s Intervention
Critical issues reviewed included :
- Feasibility and detailing of seismic base isolation design, with pendulum friction dampers, through time-history analysis in Etabs software package, including soil-structure interaction effects.
- Foundation design, including structural stability diaphragm walls, verified through analysis in Plaxis 2D software.
